Traditionally the hues associated with Winter fall within scathing silvers, blistering blues and whites bright enough to make your eyes wither, though one will also find an assortment of smokey grays and black alongside muted neutrals, all of which carry enough shimmer to keep rogue pieces of glitter floating around your house well into Spring. Glistening eyes are amplified with soft yet thick black lashes, rosy cheeks, satin lips and a warm glow that will light up your face like an inviting fire. While perpetuating the Ice Queen trope can mean roaming into whimsical territory, where ornaments meant for decorating trees are fixed atop the head, garments flutter in gossamer layers and pristine faux fur wraps you up nice and tight to protect you from bitter Winter winds, indulging fantasies can certainly be a fun way to spend a chilly afternoon. Much like the seasons themselves, though, trends change and something new takes reign as you dream of dashing through the snow.

As someone who has been getting professional piercings for over a decade now, I am always intrigued by the constant parade of body jewelry which goes beyond the stale standards that have been seen and offer little expression of individuality. After my set of bottom lip piercings, my septum is the second hole I had put in my face and therefore also one of the piercings I have had the longest. Initially it was done with a stainless steel captive ring, the bead of which held a shimmering red gem. Having such a prominent piece on my face when I was 18 garnered a lot of attention [both positive and negative] that caused me to seek out stories of others and their experiences. The point is that now I barely ever remember I have the piercing, though well aware of the stainless steel seamless ring that currently occupies the hole in my septum.
Over the past several months I have been seeing a lot of beautiful jewelry come across my Tumblr dashboard, and as a result I swoon, sigh then solemnly swear that I will some day own a statement septum piece. The concept of wearing jewelry on my body has become foreign to me, even if I can be found adorned in an extra accessory or two aside from the metal that has pretty much become a permanent part of my flesh. It makes more sense to me, though buying jewels that I can wear in my face might be seen as extravagant, but I could say the same about what others choose to spend their money on. Investing in my modifications with an understanding of the long-term value of them is something that I enjoy and there is a sense of pride in doing so.
Having said all that, these stunning pieces discovered on Body Vision, a Los Angeles based company that manufactures wholesale body jewelry and distributes it through various tattoo and piercing shops, really captured my attention. Though they are not made of bronze, the pieces presented are for artistic purposes as a suggestion to coordinate with the makeup above.
